About the Artist

"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." Degas
I"m Joanne, and I have always been an artist.
I used to say , "Oh I just dabble in this and that." Then I realized I was selling myself short.
I grew up, as many artists have, with creating and making being my "thing". My Grandmother was the biggest influence. She always made it feel like Christmas all over again each time she visited with a new craft or art supplies for us.
As a teen it was a refuge and I like to say it saved me too.
Over the years I have learned everything from crochet, to sewing to oil painting and everything in between.
But now , it's a way of life. If I'm not creating everyday, at least I am working on the business side of the art. Not always glamorous but necessary.
I did not receive a formal education in artmaking but I was taught by many great artists in courses and workshops over the years. It would be a disservice to say that I am self taught when I have learned from so many. Maybe the term is self directed.
I have always been an entrepreneur so business has always been something I liked to learn, although the business of art is very different than any other.
My husband and I plus our two cats, live in a small town in Eastern Ontario called Napanee, and we are originally from Cambridge, Ontario.
It has taken me a while to find my art tribe here, now I'm getting more established and having fun trying new projects, shows and of course always learning.
